Stories have surfaced as to a chance made way back in a universe far-off where George Lucas and Steven Spielberg gambled on how their movies would perform.

The Star Wars movie franchise has made George Lucas a billionaire nevertheless it also apparently caused him to lose an overly big bet. Details was revealed a few bet that Lucas and Spielberg made back within the 1970s that has proven an enormous loser for Lucas -- to the tune of about $40 million.

Lucas was engaged on the primary Star Wars movie and was worried about the way it would perfom. His friend Spielberg -- who was on the time a lot more experienced and successful was busy with Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Lucas visited Spielberg on set and ended up depressed and convinced his own movie was going to flop. Consistent with an interview Spielberg did recently for Turner Classic Movies, the 2 ended up agreeing to gamble just a little they usually swapped 2.5% of what each in their movies would go directly to gross.

Neither is named being a huge casino celebrity gambler but their friendly wager would end up to have huge consequences. Close Encounters of the Third Kind did well on the box office but Star Wars would go directly to be a mega hit and a cultural phenomenon.

If you add up the performance of both movies and consider the 2.5% the 2 directors swapped, the result is that Lucas ended up owing Spielberg about $40 million for his or her big movie bet.

While he likely wasn't happy handy over $40 million for a single losing bet --  far greater than Floyd Mayweather has ever lost on a single sports bet -- the pain was likely eased by the entire money Lucas made off of the Star Wars franchise.

Lucas' net worth is rumored to be as regards to $5 billion so forking over $40 million is solely a small drop within the bucket.
