USE this LINKI USED TO BE playing in a house tournament with several new players. Throughout the game one player laid down his hand after you have checked raised when an Ace hit the board. As he mucked his hand he told the opposite player he had put him on Big Slick. The newbie inquired as to what he meant by Big Slick. When he was told that it was the name for Ace-King he asked if there have been names for other starting hands.
Below is an inventory of a few of the more common and a few not so common names for starting poker hands. Probably the most younger players probably is not going to understand the connection with terms like Broderick Crawford (The star of the 60s show Highway Patrol who used 10-4) or Woolworths (which was a large chain of five and 10 cent stores in days past.) Depending upon where you reside there may well be other local terminology used for the starting hands but listed here are some that I'VE compiled.
