Paula Deen's food empire continues to crumble with Caesars the newest company to sever ties together with her.
Caesars announced last week that they'd come to an agreement with her that'd see the casino giant rebrand her four existing restaurants currently operating in casinos within the U.S.
Paula Deen-themed restaurants currently operate at Horseshoe Southern Indiana, Harrah’s Tunica, Harrah’s Joliet, and Harrah’s Cherokee, and not using a firm timeline given for when the rebranding will take place.
“While we appreciate Paula’s sincere apologies for statements she made in her past that she recently disclosed during a deposition given in accordance with a lawsuit, after thoughtful consideration in their impact, we have now mutually decided that it's within the best interests of both parties to part ways at this time,” said Jan Jones Blackhurst, executive vice chairman of communications and government affairs for Caesars Entertainment.
Caesars is solely the newest company to present Deen the boot, joining the Food Network, Smithfield Foods, and various other companies that had paid Deen to be a spokesperson or had ties to her.
Deen's troubles escalated quickly from a deposition involving a case against her and her brother claiming racial discrimination and sexual harassment within the workplace. While her brother was the focal point of a number of the charges within the lawsuit, testimony from a deposition for the case was unearthed where Deen admitted to using the "N word" prior to now and seemed relatively unapologetic about it, claiming it was something that everybody" has done" from time to time.
Attempts at damage control were unsuccessful, with Deen posting a public apology and asking her fans to rally behind her in addition to doing several stops at the talk show circuit to plead her case. Despite her efforts the majority of her major sponsors began cutting her loose, with the Food Network perhaps the largest blow to Deen and her sprawling food empire.
