The 2013 WSOP Main Event started with over 6,000 players but now just nine remain.
Each remaining player plunked down their $10,000 entry fee days ago once they began their Main Event journey, chasing a pot of gold with first place prize money of over $8.3 million.
The final nine players -- dubbed the November Nine due to the fact the action pauses until November when they'll play all the way down to a winner -- are each now certain to win a minimum of $733,224 in poker's biggest event each year.
There's greater than just cash at the line, however, because the biggest bragging rights within the poker world come from winning the principle Event and joining an illustrious list of poker stars over time that experience included Doyle Brunson, Stu Ungar, Johnny Chan, and Phil Hellmuth.
A former Main Event champ virtually made it back to the general table for one more crack, with Carlos Mortensen (who won the primary Event in 2001) getting knocked out at the final table bubble in 10th place.
J.C. Tran was the person who knocked him out and Tran would be the chip leader when play resumes in November. Listed here are the chip stacks that the surviving players will bring back with them:
Seat 1: Sylvain Loosli - 22,450,000
Seat 2: Michiel Brummelhuis - 13,675,000
Seat 3: Mark Newhouse - 2,400,000
Seat 4: Ryan Riess - 18,300,000
Seat 5: Amir Levahot - 27,875,000
Seat 6: Marc McLaughlin - 29,075,000
Seat 7: JC Tran - 39,625,000
Seat 8: David Benefield - 8,575,000
Seat 9: Jay Farber - 17,275,000
Unlike some years when amateurs abound, the general table is essentially made from professional players; last year's final table was largely American however the 2013 edition could have a more international flair, with Canada, France, the Netherlands, and Israel represented along with the U.S.
