I got right into a funk this past week and couldn't make any good decisions. That's obviously bad if you end up gambling, so I dispose of any play until tonight when I WILL BE back in Vegas. In the end this time I'VE learned that stress is a killer. A bankroll killer. So do not believe I'm a square for believing that my mood and state of mind is directly associated with my success on the tables.

I can't remember a single time that I headed out to the casino in a foul mood and booked a winner. It isn't a psychic thing or a Karma thing, it is a psychological thing. If I CANNOT pay attention to my gambling task handy (taking down every pot I possibly can), then I should not be playing. I DO KNOW that I HAVE to reduce my stress before I start playing or I'll just increase more stress from losing!

A friend of mine got his stack squashed by an action-player in a hold'em game the opposite day. The opposite player called a raise preflop and good-size bets at the flop and river before catching runner-runner and creating a straight. The proverbial bad beat is often stressful, but my friend didn't flip-out. He played another hand, took a bit of walk, decompressed, got a couple of more chips, and enjoyed the remainder of the evening, especially when he got into another hand with the similar action-player.

This time the outcome was different and his pocket pair held-up against A-Q for an all-in bet, but he only got the decision after staying calm earlier and doing what it's important to do to achieve success: wait and pick your spots. In this hand my friend reraised all-in and the action-player, still happy because he was winning and there have been no altercation earlier, asked "WOULD YOU LIKE action" and my buddy said "Sure."

Obviously the long and in need of it's to stay calm and focused; stay within the moment through the current hand, learn from it, and move on. Do this and you will always do well at poker. I'LL keep that during mind tonight!
