Karas is currently being held without bail on the Clark County Prison in Las Vegas as he awaits extradition, charged with cheating at a California casino by marking cards while playing blackjack.

Por mucho que nos encantaría decir que todos ellos pasaron al día de hoy en el que se celebrará la fase decisiva del torneo, esto (como es de imaginar) no ha sido así. Entre todas estas eliminaciones, algunas fueron realmente dolorosas. Por mencionar un par, las de "Varosky" y "Jonwayne69" sentaron como un jarro de agua fría a los muchos que les intentábamos seguir en la distancia, más allá de por lo que las cartas comunitarias depararon, por la situación que ocupaban en el torneo justo anterior caer. Los dos jugadores residentes en Portugal llegaron a ocupar plazas de Top10 minutos anterior que llegara su hora en una concatenación de infortunios que dieron al traste con toda opción.

Pero afortunadamente para nuestros intereses, no todas las cosas fueron malas noticias. Más allá de las muchas eliminaciones españolas (que las hubo), ahora toca centrarse en los supervivientes que esta tarde, a partir de las 20:30h volverán a la acción, primero para ver si son capaces de colarse entre los primeros 243 puestos que dan opción a premio, y más tarde, y si todo cuadra mucho, si pueden luchar por el premio más importante del año en un torneo online.

La selección española de poker, confeccionada por la Federación Internacional de Poker en España, viajará a Brasil el siguiente noviembre para pelear por el cetro mundial.

Del 25 al 27 de noviembre, Rio de Janeiro va a ser la sede de la segunda edición de la Nations Cup, el campeonato del mundo de poker por equipos organizado por la International Federation of Poker.

La Roja es el equipo de todo el poker español

España consiguió su plaza para el torneo posterior quedar en tercer lugar en la European Nations Cup celebrada en abril en Chipre, solo por detrás de Irlanda y una de las grandes favoritas al título en Brasil, Rusia. La remontada del último día de competición nos colocó entre los seis equipos que formalizaban el visado a la Nations Cup, que todavía no tenía decidido un destino, con varias ciudades candidatas a albergar el evento.

En Brasil, el poker está considerado como un deporte a efectos legales, lo que seguro ha tenido un gran peso para que se haya escogido al país carioca como la sede de la primera Nations Cup que ha contado con un sistema de clasificación, al contrario que la edición inaugural de Londres en 2011 a la que se accedió por invitación.

Las anteriores actuaciones de la Roja, que hemos seguido en vivo en Poker-Red, nos han permitido vivir una nueva visión del poker de competición, en la que el equipo prima sobre la actuación individual y que tanto les ha gustado a los que la han probado, como nos comentaba hace bien poquito Ana Márquez en una amplia e interesante entrevista.

Ana formó parte de la selección española que logró la clasificación en la isla mediterránea, la misma que cruzará el Atlántico para defender nuestros colores en Brasil: Adrián Mateos, Ana Márquez, Javier Piazuelo, Juan Maceiras, César García y el gran capitán: Juan Manuel Pastor.

Al igual que en Chipre, habrá plazas disponibles para jugadores invitados al equipo nacional. En el torneo europeo, Adrián Mateos, acompañante de la selección como ganador del ESPT Madrid, se ganó un puesto definitivo en el equipo, pero aún quedan tres huecos por cubrir.

Estos tres jugadores saldrán de entre todos los abonados a la Federación Internacional de Poker en España, que presidida por Juan Manuel Pastor, pretende acercar a los jugadores la posibilidad de vivir la experiencia de participar en torneos de alto nivel.

Daniel Negreanu: a vueltas con la dichosa regla en su videoblog

El canadiense lanza una nueva entrega del videoblog en el que suele repasar la actualidad del mundo del poker. ¿A que no sabéis de qué habla esta semana? De nuevo, de la "first card of the deck rule".

Como viene siendo habitual en Daniel Negreanu, el canadiense vuelve a lanzar una nueva entrega de su videoblog particular en el que, una semana más, repasa la actualidad del mundo del poker internacional.

En esta ocasión, el tema que ocupa el mayor protagonismo en este vídeo es, para "sorpresa" de muchos, la modelo regla "first card of the deck", que tantos quebraderos de cabeza está generando al bueno de Daniel. Crítico desde el primer momento, Negreanu no ha podido evitar la tentación de, en su propio espacio, volver a evaluar lo que para él significa una regla como esta.

Lo primero que Daniel critica, es la naturaleza de la norma, y la forma en que la TDA la ha implantado, a su modo de ver, sin contar con la opinión de los jugadores más experimentados, e imponiéndola de forma imperativa.

Uno de los aspectos que mayores diferencias ha generado entre Matt Savage y yo, es la forma en que la han implementado. No me parece una buena idea imponer reglas tan estrictas en momentos que no son del todo adecuados. Son reglas que evitan que el juego pueda convertirse en ser amistoso, como se ha demostrado en algunas ocasiones.

Esta regla, a mi modo de ver, intenta asemejarse mucho a cuando íbamos al colegio, y el profesor nos decía: "siéntate ahí y no te muevas". En realidad, pienso que eso no es lo que busca el jugador recreacional que de vez en cuando decide participar en un torneo. Ellos considero que dan prioridad al aspecto social del juego, pasarlo bien y ese tipo de cosas, evitando ser corregidos o avisados en cada momento.

Resumiendo: para mí, las reglas que restringen la diversión, no deberían tener cabida. Ya sabéis que me mostré muy crítico en años anteriores contra la regla de las WSOP, que impedía hablar cuando dos jugadores estaban en una mano heads-up. Es una situación prácticamente idéntica. Son normas que atacan frontalmente la integridad del juego como la conocemos. Me gustaría que se pudiera mantener la atmósfera de "buen rollo" en el poker.

Negreanu sigue poniendo ejemplos sobre reglas que en los últimos tiempos la TDA ha redactado, y que no acaban de encajar en la forma que tiene el canadiense de ver el poker. Misma situación ocurre con los teléfonos móviles en las mesas de poker.

Resumiendo esta parte del vídeo: según Daniel, los crupieres deberían ser "asistentes" de los jugadores, y no "policías" que a la mínima que un jugador se aparte de la regla estrictamente hablando, reporte su actitud para que se aplique una penalización al jugador.

Después de hablar sobre este tema durante varios minutos (los que dominéis la lengua de Shakespeare lo podréis comprobar) Daniel pone el tema sobre la mesa y lanza el debate.

¿Son todas estas reglas beneficiosas para el poker actual? ¿Pueden convertirse en asustar y espantar a los jugadores recreacionales? ¿Se están cargando la parte lúdica del juego?"

Para escenificar este debate, Daniel muestra una mano que protagonizó hace años en el Big Game de PokerStars, en la que "seguramente debí quebrantar un centenar de reglas de la TDA". ¿Y para qué? Probablemente para demostrar que, el jugador recreacional o aficionado, lo que busca es una atmósfera que capte su atención, en la que se lo pase bien, sin necesidad de sentirse perseguido.

Conclusión: todos los grandes momentos de la historia del poker, pasaron a ser precisamente eso, gracias a que en la ecuación, entró el factor psicológico, bien sea una serie de comentarios para extraer información adicional, bien sea levantarse de la mesa para pensar qué opción elegir, o cosas de este tipo. Según Negreanu, prohibiendo estas prácticas, lo que se está haciendo de alguna forma, es erradicar la existencia de todos esos grandes momentos que tanta afición han creado con el paso de los años.

De nuevo, dejamos la puerta del debate medio abierta para que todo el que quiera, pueda participar. ¿Estáis de acuerdo con Negreanu, o por el contrario pensáis que estas normas, más allá de ser beneficiosas o no, son realmente necesarias?

Un avance del primer programa del nuevo show "Poker Night in America" nos enseña una mano que provoca un tenso enfrentamiento entre Shaun Deeb y Mike Matusow

El programa "Poker Night in America" ya ha grabado su primer programa. La alineación inicial que podremos ver cuenta con Matt Glantz, Mike Matusow, Shaun Deeb , David Levi, Greg Mueller, Tom Schneider, Kristy Arnett y Gavin Smith para jugar una partida de 25$/50$ con stacks de 10.000$.

En este avance podemos ver como Mike Matusow pierde 20.000$ -estaba doblado- en dos botes, con un final bastante violento.

En el primero, Mike pretende provocar un squeeze con QQ en un bote muy concurrido y se topa con los AA de Tom Schneider. Mike intenta explicar que pensaba que había straddle en la mesa, pero lo que consigue es llegar a el tema de converasación.

Shaun Deeb le flopea poker a Mike en una mano posterior y decide que será gracioso hacerle un slowroll, que consiste en retrasar un call o un showdown con una mano claramente ganadora, acción muy peliculera pero considerada de muy mala educación en el poker real. A Matusow le sienta como un tiro.

Más adelante, es Greg Mueller el que vuelve a sacar el tema, porque desde la mano con Deeb, Matusow se ha agriado y farfulla entre dientes en cada mano, amenazando con irse de la mesa.

-Mueller: Mejor que le pidas perdón , porque si no Mike igual se larga.-Deeb: Lo siento Mike, fue simplemente un momento divertido para televisión-Matusow: No es divertido. Nada divertido. Nunca le hice un slowroll a nadie en mi vida y no lo haré jamás.

Greg Mueller, cerveza en mano, sigue con el tema y le cuenta a toda la mesa que Shaun le avisó anterior hacerle la faena a Matusow, como se ve en el vídeo, y luego reconoce que estuvo al margen de lugar. Mike asiente y dice “eso es una de las cosas en la vida con las que no bromeo”.

Shaun intenta intervenir y Mike salta por fin amenazando con que o le deja en paz o va a recibir “un puñetazo en la **** boca; y si piensas que estoy de broma, no lo estoy”.

Por lo que sabemos, Deeb no osó poner a prueba las palabras de Mike y la cosa no pasó a mayores.

La PokerStars Casino Gran Madrid PokerRoom se volvió a llenar ayer con los 129 jugadores que evitaron quedarse sin puntos en las jornadas inaugurales del primer Estrellas Madrid Series. El registro total de este primer torneo fue de 427 jugadores.

Todo el mundo estuvo de acuerdo en darle la pica a Marcos / PokerStars

El formato del torneo, de dos días de duración, concentraba en una sola jornada todos los grandes momentos de un torneo: la burbuja de premios, la búsqueda de la mesa final y la coronación del campeón.

Para cumplimentar todos esos pasos, se necesitaba que el desfile de jugadores hacia el raíl fuera constante en estas que no quedamos sin uno de los jugadores más conocidos del field Axier Otxoa.

El ritmo de eliminaciones fue tal que se llegó a la burbuja en tres horas y media y, cuando esta estalló, había tres jugadores recogiendo sus bártulos a la vez. Dos de ellos, Álvaro Gómez y Daniel Urbaneja, cayeron eliminados por Javier de Zárate. En otra mesa, Javier de Vicente se veía obligado a empujar media ciega con 86s.

Como bien explican los compañeros del blog de PokerStars, si de Vicente hubiera ganado su mano, el jugador con menos fichas de la otra mesa se hubiera quedado sin un duro. Pero al coincidir tres eliminaciones en distintas mesas, los dos premios que había que entregar se repartieron a partes iguales entre todos.

En cuanto los shortstacks pudieron desatornillar las fichas, los allin y call reaparecieron con fuerza, provocando la despedida, entre otros, del “rapero” Eugenio Santamaría. En los 40 minutos que separaron la burbuja de la cena, el field se redujo a 30 jugadores.

La comida apaciguó a los supervivientes y el torneo se ralentizó bastante. Marcos López, futuro ganador, se salvó por los pelos en una mano en la que Albert Macià se aisló contra un short con KK. A Marcos, en la ciega grande, ni se le ocurrió foldear JJ, pese a que cubría por muy poco a Macià. La trucha cayó en el flop.

Las salidas consecutivas de Vital Villarrubia, Armando Muñoz-Calero y Javier de Zárate dejaron lista la mesa final, de la que ya era líder Marcos López y en la que los más experimentados eran Ricardo Ibáñez y Serve García.

Ricardo acabaría sexto, posterior perder un flip y de que el board le administrara una puntilla cruel contra el chipleader. Sus 77 quedaron inservibles en una mesa TTAA4 y Marcos ganó la mano con Q5.

Marcos López se aseguró llegar al pacto entre los últimos cuatro jugadores con más fichas que nadie eliminando a David Gómez. Eran las 02:00 y nadie quiso prolongar el torneo. Se repartieron el dinero y decidieron que Marcos López fuera el que se llevara el trofeo a casa, y así sucedió.
